Nutrition and Wellness in Early Childhood
At Highfields Central Early Education Centre, we understand that proper nutrition and overall wellness are foundational to a child’s growth and development. Establishing healthy habits in the early years sets the stage for a lifetime of well-being. Here’s how we prioritise nutrition and wellness in our approach to early childhood education:
1. Balanced, Nutritious Meals
Good nutrition is key to a child’s physical and cognitive development. At Highfields Central, we provide balanced meals and snacks that are rich in essential nutrients. Our menu is designed to fuel children’s energy and support their growth, with a focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. We also accommodate dietary needs and preferences, ensuring that every child receives the nourishment they need.
2. Teaching Healthy Eating Habits
Beyond offering nutritious food, we actively teach children about healthy eating. Through interactive activities and discussions, we help children understand the importance of making nutritious food choices. This includes lessons on where food comes from, the benefits of different food groups, and the importance of staying hydrated.
3. Encouraging Physical Activity
Physical activity is crucial for children’s health and development. At Highfields Central, we incorporate plenty of opportunities for active play throughout the day. Whether it’s running, climbing, dancing, or organized games, these activities help children develop strong muscles and coordination, while also fostering a love for movement.
4. Promoting Mental and Emotional Wellbeing
Wellness is not just about physical health; it also includes mental and emotional well-being. We create a supportive and nurturing environment where children feel safe and valued. Our educators are trained to recognize and support children’s emotional needs, helping them develop resilience, empathy, and social skills.
5. Instilling Lifelong Wellness Habits
Our goal is to instil wellness habits that will last a lifetime. By integrating nutrition, physical activity, and emotional well-being into our daily routines, we help children develop a holistic understanding of health. We encourage children to make healthy choices and teach them the importance of self-care and mindfulness from a young age.
At Highfields Central Early Education Centre we have a four-week rotating (summer and winter menu) cooked on sight that caters all allergy and intolerances. Our daily menu consists of: Breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and 5pm late snack. Have a look at a sample menu below!
